Alsea River on a golden fall day, Oregon
The Alsea River flows 48.5 miles (78.1 km) from Alsea, an unincorporated community in the coastal mountains of Oregon, to the Pacific Ocean near the city of Waldport. The river winds its way through lush forests and assorted farm lands. It can be described as a hidden paradise.
The river does have some resident trout that some will fish for but most fishermen come to the Alsea to fish for the Chinook Salmon Coho Salmon and Winter Steelhead that come into its waters from the Pacific ocean to spawn.
The Alsea River has a Fall run of Chinook Salmon that come in from the Pacific Ocean. Also running in the Fall, Coho Salmon are known for taking the fight to the air when hooked and can be found in the river at the same time as Chinook Salmon.
