SCANG celebrates history with P-51 Mustang namesake, “Swamp Fox”.
A South Carolina Air National Guard F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jet, assigned to the 169th Fighter Wing at McEntire Joint National Guard Base and a World War II era P-51 Mustang team up to celebrate their aviation history by flying together over South Carolina landmarks, August 10, 2019. The 169 FW is proud of its 70-plus years as a single-seat fighter unit and its namesake, South Carolina American Revolutionary War hero General Francis “the Swamp Fox” Marion. The P-51 Mustang bears the name “Swamp Fox.” The P-51, owned and operated by R.T. Dickson, was once assigned to the Kentucky Air National Guard from 1947 to 1953.
