South Carolina chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution and fellow South Carolinians, both young and old, gather at the tomb of General Francis Marion in Pineville S.C. for a memorial service to honor the 222nd year since his death, Feb. 27, 2017.
Gen. Marion was nicknamed the "Swamp Fox" for his ability to surprise and harass British forces during America's fight for independence. This year, the South Carolina Air National Guard's 169th Fighter Wing's commander, U.S. Air Force Colonel Nicholas Gentile Jr., was invited to speak on behalf of his unit who proudly honors its namesake, Gen. Francis Marion, for being known as the "Swamp Fox Wing". (U.S. Air National Guard photo by Senior Master Sgt. Edward Snyder). Original public domain image from Flickr
