Urban Jungle?
We're off to the theatre tonight, so it's an early one for a change.
Pretty bluebells with green fields behind them...where can I be?
How about in the middle of a housing estate?
For the first time in possibly years, I drove through the Boot Estate in Norris Green a week or so ago. The place is just surreal.
Problems of social deprivation gradually eroded the community spirit until it became a sink estate. Ultimately the decision was taken to effectively level the whole estate.
What's really strange is that whilst the houses are gone, the roads, pavements and street lighting all remain.
I don't know if this is for future development planning, or if it's just a way of saving cash. Due to the complexities of British legislation it's very, very difficult and expensive to close roads, so it's probably easier and cheaper to just leave them.
Now the place is just a network of roads with green fields between them. Very, very odd indeed. Original public domain image from Flickr
